Ready or Not Here He Comes
We need to discern what’s digging. Who are we allowing to dig into our houses? What physical or even electronic influences are shoveling their way into our offices and bedrooms? The watchful man is aware of the digger. He anticipates where he might try to break in. He is ready for his tunneling approach and will by all means necessary protect his house. My friend, if we are not ready for the Coming of the Lord then we are digging our own eternal graves. If we are not aware of the Redeemer, not robber, trying to dig into the deepest chambers and storage areas of the darkest secrets of our soul, then we are not ready; and we are not truly watchful.
My friend, He is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. He already knows what you know. And when Jesus is talking about the digging thief he is really targeting the suddenness of his break in. Why not have “a sudden” change of heart? Why not let Christ steal you away from the prisons of pride and the cells of sorrow? Why not let the Redeemer break into the hurting areas of your heart and heal them? A robber breaks in to take something from you. But Jesus, the Redeemer, wants to break in your heart because you’ve called Him to deliver you, and he wants to give something to you. Remember, the Devil is a thief that takes from you; Jesus is a Savior that gives to you. So, stop being robbed; be redeemed.
You see, when the Devil comes in he is like this intruding digger Jesus described in the analogy of suddenness. The Devil comes in and steals from you, because he is a thief. Remember, the Bible does not call the returning Christ a thief; only that he will come again like a thief in the night. So, truthfully speaking, Jesus digs not as a thief, but more like an archeologist. And when he digs to your true self; to the golden treasures of your soul he knows what you are worth. Blood. For that’s what he paid for you. So, let him dig you out. Let Jesus make you ready for His soon Return.
Fourthly, if the “Goodman of the house had known…” This implies regret. Regret can be a powerful motivator. It can fuel today’s preparation with yesterday’s pain. The unsaid reality here is that the Master of the house would most likely be more vigilant if given a second chance to be ready. What is your second chance? How many times has Jesus reached a hand of love for you? Why do you keep pretending that it doesn’t bother you? What happened to the child like faith you once had? Was it taken away? Did someone steal it from you with lies and deceit?
Lastly, the thief came at night. Bad things happen in the night. The world as it relates to digression and sin is, no doubt, in the night. And the night is far spent. Morning comes soon. Yet, before the dawn rays break open a new day, the night must first makes its final stand. It will be the darkest. It will be the most deceptive. It will be the most dreaded. If we only had to watch in the day when our eyes are wide awake and far from the gravity of sleep, then our task would be less challenging. But we watch in the night. And while we wait for the King to come the prince of darkness works feverishly.
We know that we must keep our eyes open, but they are heavy with sleep; the sleep of majority living, everyone else is doing it; our eye are heavy with the sleep of convenience; we, in most ways, have need of nothing; our eyes are heavy with the sleep of pride; we would watch, but that’s for weak people to do, fearful people. Our eyes are heavy with the sleep of entertainment; we are too engaged in the dreamy computer generated images of creative men to be alert to the true image of Christ about to fill our skies. And the question is, if we sleep, will we enter the dreamscapes of alternate universes of wild success and adventure, or will it be the stark, apocalyptic setting of moonscape deserts and burning, lava spewing worlds? Will we see our friends and loved ones sitting at festive tables laughing and spearing fresh meat for their plates, or will it be the loathed realms of scarcity where beggars wander and drifters blindly walk with little knowledge of where they’ve been or where they’re going? Oh, that we may awaken ourselves and be ready. Ready for the King. Ready for the Crown.Played: 440 | Download | Duration: 00:28:30
